CATZ founders Jim Liston and Kevin Wentz were responsible for the fitness levels of both teams. The program was geared toward preparing each athlete’s body and mind. In 2003, Galaxy midfielder Peter Vagenas was quoted in Soccer America summarized the CATZ program’s place in the Galaxy’s practice routine by saying: “It’s been staple of this team because of our coaching staff and their mentality that no one will outwork us…. No one is going to be fitter than us. That’s something that we instill in preseason and keep the entire season that no matter what happens, we’re going to be the fittest team.”
Not only did the work pay off in the form of an MLS trophy but, three years later their fitness & work ethic are legendary in the eyes of ESPN.
