Five CATZ athletes among MLS Best XI

photo

"I registered for a half marathon being held on February 3rd, 2008 and instead of my normal training schedule of "logging miles" I concentrated on the CATZ training sessions. Between Dec.'07 and Feb. '08 I did only 3 runs of 10-12 miles. However, since joining CATZ, I have religiously attended from 2 to as many as 5 sessions per week. During this time I have seen my "core" strength increase, my sprinting and recovery time improve. Well, I ran the Surf City USA half Marathon in cold blowing rain on Sunday morning February 3rd. To my surprise and excitement, I felt GREAT the entire race and turned in a Personal Best of 1:43:21 which crushed my previous best time by approximately 15 minutes! My next full marathon is in April and I can't wait to see how I do then! "

CATZ athlete leading Yale Bulldogs

Bobby Abare Earns Four Awards

Abare has 4 picks in two games

Ivy, ECAC, I-AA.org, FB Gazette Honor LB

Sophomore LB Bobby Abare earned defensive player of the week honors from the Ivy League, I-AA.org, the ECAC and the Football Gazette. He was also the Walter Camp Yale Player of the Game after picking off three passes and making seven tackles in Yale’s 27-24 win at Brown on Nov. 4.

Abare, who picked off Brown QB Joe DiGiacomo’s first quarter pass and went 19 yards for a score, returned an interception for a TD for the second straight week. He went 52 yards with a Columbia pass to help the Elis beat the Lions on Oct. 28. Abare is the first Bulldog to have a three-interception game since Nate Boxrucker against Princeton in 1998 and the first Yale linebacker to record the trifecta since Carl Ricci ‘95 snared three passes at Brown in 1994 in a 27-16 win.

Abare, who leads the team with 41 solo stops and 65 total tackles, now has four interceptions in two games. The current Bulldog has four picks this fall, one shy of the school record for linebackers shared by Lee Driftmier (2005), Ricci (1994) and Jack Sellati (1975). The Yale record for interceptions in a game is held by Edmund Decker, who grabbed four against Dartmouth in 1927.

His twin brother, SS Larry Abare, is second on the team with 35 solos and 59 total tackles. He led Yale with 6-5-11 last week at Brown, his fourth game with a team-high in tackles.

Bobby and Larry had a combined 9-9-18 last week. One of the Abares has led the Eli defense in tackles in each of the last six games.
